Abstract

Nowadays, the European Project has been the target of several criticisms, political and positional oscillations. Issues that have contributed to the rapid and effective degradation and disintegration, considerably threatening its cohesion. In this regard, it is crucial to analyze the critical factors for territorial success in transboundary areas, vital for understanding this phenomenon - of sudden degradation/disintegration. The present research, through the use surveys applied to expert, aims to answer to the defined issues. Nevertheless, and considering studies already put forward along the same lines, a search is sought for a correlation between the critical factors for territorial success in frontier areas and their possible socio-cultural impacts. The study allowed the definition of a current state of the subject, as well as isolating some factors such as the example of the sense of belonging and of the maintenance of local distinctiveness as key elements for the citizens of European border areas - to achieve territorial success.
