MOVEMENT OF LANDLESS RURAL WORKERS AND THE RIGHT TO PROPERTY IN THE LIGHT OF INSTITUTIONAL THEORY

The study discussed the role of the Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST) in
the light of Institutional Theory. The contribution of such a movement to social development
and its influence on legal and institutional security was analyzed. It is proposed that the
MST's actions favor social development in the short term, by providing vulnerable society
with access to potentially productive capital resources; however, in the long term, social
development will be reduced, due to the discouragement of investments, innovations and
even production, caused by legal insecurity and uncertainty regarding property rights.
