Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has generated profound changes in society, including education. This qualitative exploratory-descriptive study investigated the perceptions of teachers, students and administrative technicians at the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro in relation to hygiene during and after the pandemic. Of the 271 participants, 82% of teachers, 55% of students and 66% of administrative technicians, respectively, were infected by COVID-19, facing common symptoms such as fever, cough and loss of taste. Most had the disease once, seeking medical assistance. While more than 60% took three or four doses of the vaccine, many reported reactions, emphasizing immunization awareness. Participants demonstrated significant knowledge about prevention and hygiene practices, with more than 80% adhering to the use of face masks. The results revealed that more than 60% maintained the habit of washing their hands and using alcohol gel after the pandemic, although other hygiene practices have significantly decreased. This study highlights the need for persistent efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of the academic community and the entire population, strengthening awareness of preventive measures and the maintenance of hygiene practices.
