Soybean Interactions with Soil Microorganisms: A Brief Review of Biological and Agronomic Aspects

Soybean is a legume of extreme importance for human and animal nutrition. The increase in its productivity in recent years is due to the improvement of the species and the development of new cultivars, as well as the adoption of management technologies and the use of organisms that promote plant growth, represented by bacteria and fungi. Thus, this work aimed to carry out a literature review about the functionalities of soil microbial communities, seeking to verify what is newest about the interactions between soil microorganisms with soybeans and how are the mechanisms that contribute to the vegetative development of the crop. Bacterial genera such as Rhizobium and Bacillus and fungi such as Trichoderma have become well-known in soybean culture, helping plants to grow healthier and more resilient to abiotic and biotic stresses. Crop management is another essential point to contribute soybean production. The no-till system, for example when using different crops as soil cover, may favor certain groups of microorganisms to the detriment of others. Thus, the use of microbial inoculants, whether based on bacteria or fungi, is gaining more notoriety and awareness of those who use them. Considered as an environmentally friendly method, microorganisms can be an alternative to promote improvements in the agronomic performance of several crops and even replace, as in the case of nitrogen, the application of chemical fertilizers, which cause negative effects on the environment.
