Human Legacies Impressed in the Landscape of the Tijuca National Park: Land Use, Occupation and Exotic Species Introduction

Currently the perspective of socioecological systems allows the researcher to carry out a study of the coupled human-ecological dimensions. In the present work we will cross environmental history information of the of the Tijuca Forest with Jackfriuit (Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam) geographic distribution data, to better understand its role in the socioecological system that currently covers the Tijuca National Park. From the field investigations we found a spatial association of the current distribution of the jackfruit with forest border areas, as well as associated with ruins of old farms in the forest, and associated to former charcoal production sites in the forest. This initial evidence opens up another look at the urban forests from a socioecological point of view with a functionalist perspective of ecosystem services.
