Abstract

Macairea radula, “capuchinha”, is a shrub popularly used for dermatoses and scabies. The aim of this study was to perform the morpho-anatomical study, the phytochemical screening, the antibacterial activity of essential oil, crude extract and leaves fractions. The macroscopic characterization was carried out in the Serra dos Pireneus, Goiás. Anatomical studies and phytochemical screening were performed according to conventional techniques. The antibacterial activity was determined through the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration. The essential oil was obtained by hydrodistillation in a Clevenger apparatus. M. radula has simple, opposite leaves. The leaf blade is hypoestomatic, trichomes on both faces. It was observed coumarins, steroids, triterpenes, tannins, deoxy sugars, flavonoid and saponin. Antimicrobial activity of the crude extract and aqueous fraction against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, dichloromethane and ethyl acetate fractions against Listeria innocua were observed. The results open future perspectives for its use in the development of products with potential antibacterial activity.
