I analyze in this work a period in the scientific trajectory of Waldemar Ferreira de Almeida (1918-1996), a physician who developed researches about pesticides toxicology between the 1940s and 1980s. Between 1965 and 1973, he coordinated a project which aimed develop research on pesticides at the Biological Institute of São Paulo, with participation of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO). During this time, he completed his Ph.D. thesis by researching DDT concentrations in professionally exposed individuals and in people who lived in houses sprayed indoor during public health campaigns. These results were presented at WHO Expert Committee on Insecticides´ meeting, which sought to establish guidelines for the "safe use" of these substances. His trajectory allows one to understand the articulations between conceptual and disciplinary questions of toxicological investigations on pesticides with national and international policies for agriculture and public health.
