Species of the Brazilian Flora and its Uses in the 19th Century in ‘Plantas Usuais dos Brasileiros’ by Auguste de Saint-Hilaire

In this work we analyze the description of several native species and their uses contained in the work Plantas Usuais dos Brasileiros (Usual Plants of Brazilians), by the French naturalist Auguste de Saint-Hilaire (1779-1853), published in French in 1824 and in Portuguese only in 2009. The comments made by Saint-Hilaire in the Plantas Usuais dos Brasileiros were compiled. Comments on local potentialities, new uses of plants and the socio-environmental situation of the territory were identified.
