Agronomic performance of corn as a function of line spacing and plant stand

The seeding is one of the stages that require greater perfection in its execution, since it can compromise the profitability of the agricultural activity, combined with the choice of the arrangement of plants to optimize grain yield. The objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of row spacing and plant stand on the agronomic performance of maize. A completely randomized design was used in a 2x3 factorial scheme, with two replications (42.5 and 85.0 cm) and three population densities (50000, 55000 and 60000 plants ha-1), with 6 replications. The mean number of days for emergence, sowing depth, longitudinal distribution, plant height and 1st ear insertion, stem diameter, ear length and diameter, mass and diameter of the cob, number of grains per row And rows per ear, ear and grain mass per ear, a thousand grain mass, and productivity. With the increase in population, there was a reduction in the number of days for emergence, ear length, ear and cob mass, and cob mass. The reduction of spacing resulted in higher percentages of normal spacing, greater spike and cob diameter.
