A system of water treatment that is able for use in remote community is the Slow Household Filter. This study compares the efficiency of a slow household filter made with construction waste (SHF recycled), with a conventional slow household filter (natural aggregates). This comparison was made by assessing physical-chemical and microbiological characteristics of filtered water according to criteria established by Ministerial Order No. 5/2017, which consolidated Ordinance No 2914/2011 on the procedures of control and monitor the water quality for human consumptions and its potability standard. The results suggest that SHF recycled can fulfill all the parameters analyzed, standing out the turbidity and total coliforms. Thus, future studies should be done in order to determine the maturation time and the reduction of the resting time, aiming to promote the use of the filter media made with construction waste as an attractive technological alternative for places with low population density.
